You need to start a thread about this! That is so adorable and heartwarming. Momma kitty taking care of something she might usually see as prey. Amazing.

Excellent idea to start a thread on the little squirrel baby with cat momma!

Thank you for the input MTC. It's hard to get pictures of the hens when they are as black as they are. I've heard mentioned here about "muddy". What exactly is that? I have a hen that has more of a green sheen to her then another hen her age. These two are the egg layers right now. One layes a nice shiny dark brown egg and the other can't seem to get the coating on. I think she rushes because of intimidation of the other hen. It will come out speckled once in a while. That poor chickens eggs have been under the roost, on the roost, outside the nestbox, in the nestbox with the other egg..... she just can't seem to find her place yet.

Now, with the blue marans...... do they lay a dark egg as well? They are a very interesting color and so are their legs. My guess is the black marans will lay a dark egg too.

I don't know if I will ever show my birds. Although, there are not to many in this area of NC. I don't think my stock is show quality since I don't know there background.

A couple of questions Please.
I have 3 Cuckoo Marans, 2 pullets & 1 cockrel, 15 weeks.

First, will they also lay dark eggs?
Second, When do they usually start to lay?
I am very new to all this, so I need all the help i can get.
Thanks.
