Black her also from Peachick lines

I just saw a picture of a wheaten marans hen,(on Bev's website) and I am in love! Is any one variety a better layer than another? I realize the black coppers have the darkest eggs, but who lays the most eggs? If I get a new breed, it does have to be a good producer as well as lay pretty eggs. Thanks!
Ps pics are always welcome!

Is this normal for a BCM? Bucky was broody for a while. She finally gave that up recently and started laying eggs again. Here are some of her eggs - it's almost like she is learning to lay dark ones again. What causes the pigment to fade or spot like these? She is laying her normal dark eggs now.

Is there such a thing of a Black Maran? I have an all black Maran hen with feathered shanks...OR is this a flaw of a black copper? I would like to know. She hasn't started laying yet so I can move her to the pen just for table eggs....Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

black can be a problem with too much melaniser and can be used with a "too red roo" 4 balance in the next generation. It is genetically different from true black entirely and should be separated if it from a true black line as breeding results are different.

Wynette, I will have to wait for someone to show me how to put a picture in the posting. I have a picture uploaded but can't get it in the post. I have the light box done and working.

These are the eggs we put in the incubator Monday. They are due to hatch September 5th if we counted right.

We are very

at our house because they are our first FBCM (and maybe a blue or splash)! My boys don't like the idea that we can't candle them because they're so dark though.

Yep......completely normal for some birds. You are right.....it's like she is learning to lay dark ones again. She was getting the kinks in the paint booth straightened out. They can lay an egg like that even if they haven't been broody.
