Hi Sjisty, definitely normal. Pigment fades and spots over the duration of their laying...Nothing to worry about. Imagine you're an artist with a spray bottle of paint, she's literally refilling and learning to paint again. Literally this will occur and that same hen will not always "paint" the same all their life....Isn't it mysterious and wonderous how the BCM's and the Welsummers do this! Welsummers are even wilder because when you pick up a just laid egg, it can have your hand prints on it! Yikes!

I actually like their goofball ones like this and wish I took the time to blow the eggs out and have a mobile from them...

Goodmorning Pinchick Nice to see you posting early... Please excuse pitiful typing etc... Had small accident and hurt hand/arm... (don't ask)... Do you know anyone in the area with Wheaton marans from Wade lines???? I need a female of decent type.. thanks

Good morning all!

I've been here lurking again...not much to say. I'm just sitting and waiting on my girls to lay their first eggs. They're singing up a storm, and the rooster is breeding...so hopefully soon. I go out about 3 times a day to check their box. They all were hatched from nice dark eggs, so hopefully they will pass it on.

Hope everyone has a great day! I'll be here reading and learning...and nursing a very bad back.

Hi Jan! Hope your hand/arm gets better quick fast and in a hurry!!!!!!! I only know one person in my area that has Wheatens and some of them are a mix of Davis x Jeane and I know she will never give these hens up. I believe that she had eggs shipped in earlier this year that are of Jeane lines but if I remember correctly only a couple of them are the correct color and body type, they are the lighter colored Wheaten, the other 4 are probably Wheatens from BCM as they are very dark and almost red in color. LoL, that is why I tried to talk her into your little roo.

At least not yet. My flock is young, so I just sit back, read, and inhale all of their wonderful information. It's really a blast here. The best breed thread in BYC in my opinion.
