What's the temperature where you are???

Sharp drop, tomorrow. I scoop the coop and run, daily. But, since one of my girls has gone blind, I go out 2 or 3 times a day, to make sure she's getting enough food and water. It's ridiculous cold - but manageable, with the tarps up. The coldest part is shoveling the paths to the coop and other areas I need access to.

Did I just find the random thread where we are all hanging out talking about exploding trees and Polar Vortexes?

I think I did.

The temperature where I am is hot, sticky, humid, uncomfortable and so it going to go on like this ....seemingly forever..........:he

Extremes in any weather are extremely trying it seems.

I hope for some relief with your weather.

It really isn't that windy now

right now it is -15 and it feels like -40

Brrrrr!

Heading this way - normally the Great Lakes will moderate our weather - but once they freeze over (which is happening fast now), the 'warmer' waters moderating things is gone. Of course the lake effect snow squalls also stop - so that's a trade I guess. Would rather the snow than the freezing cold..... (if I had my druthers...)

Current temperatures are -10C (15F) and dark (hahaha) - looks overcast on the barn camera. Temperatures are going to be steadily dropping tonight and through the day tomorrow, and the arctic outflow will really hit tomorrow night.

I have all the heaters ready in the barn for the chooks, horses may need their stable blankets tomorrow night. My two moulting ladies will spend the night in the feedroom where it's warm for the next few nights. Thank goodness I ended up making the Hen House in the barn, they can at least have a place inside to roam around and dig in the horse stalls during these trying winter days. -30C outside will mean at least -15C inside the barn though, I have their warming centers up and running!

Have a lovely evening everyone, and please be safe with this extreme cold, and take care with the incoming storm, Sunday will be most interesting.

So
Sick
Of
Snow..... and cold...

:he :barnie:he:th:mad:
You and I seem to have similar weathers. It's going to be 9°F here tomorrow OF COURSE with wind chills. I'm right next to Lake Michigan, so lots of Lake Effect snow, about 2" every night and our lake is freezing up but not super fast. But we don't have hurricanes 😅

My drive to work the other day

Yep, we seem to have similar weather and temps.

I call the lake effect '2 feet of partly cloudy'...

Just checked the radar and the wind is all wrong for me to get lake effect, it's westerly - but my sister is getting walloped hahaha - she can keep it, they have had about 7' of snow already this winter, it's like a mountain of snow at her place.

Once that wind swaps around to the NW though, then it's my turn.

I will likely get pay back from the fates for laughing at my sister and the snow up there.

Here's a couple of shots from a local drone photographer of the lake freezing over. The lighthouse and South Pier Beacon are completely covered with ice from the massive waves that come in this time of year. Ice "pancakes" are forming, which means the lake is starting to freeze over. Oh, and that bright ball in the sky is the sun (we don't see it much here this time of year).
