Yes and no Debbi! It's pick and choose with the splash just like the BC and Blue Cprs. I have found in every splash male that I grew out too high of tail sets and have also seen alot of splash roos with higher tails sets but other than that, you will find the same issues with the splash as the others.

I would have to agree with you Debbi. I have not had to many roos yet, but my blue splash did have nice conformation. I did not keep him because of dark eyes and no leg feathering. Here is a photo of him at about 5 months old.

I thought he was a hamdspme boy.

The only thing I have mated up at present are the Cuckoo, and wheaten and at present am still trying to decide what is going to happen to the Bc Marans. I am really disappointed with the BC and hope they do not get accepted into the SOP until they are presentable . Just me, Don

I love how the mamas look at thier babies. Cute pic!!

Thanks all! It's my first time having a mama hen, so it's extra fun!

Pink...where's your 'picture' of Oatmeal, the Guardian Cat??!!

Update on the BHB gang. I brought home the Golden Cuckoos and the Wheaten on Sunday....kinda wishing I would've grabbed the BC too, but had a miscommunication with the guy. Now he is threatening to send the whole flock to slaughter if no one buys them before he goes on vacation. Would have been good information to know when I picked up the other two flocks. I'll post pictures later today.

Heads up...I'm now on the look out for a nice (preferably BHB) wheaten rooster because I don't like the two that came with them....at all!

Looking forward to your olden Cuckoo pics!

poularde

He was a handsome boy! Love that long back, tail, and chunkiness! Nice color too, darn those dark eyes!

Pink, Sure there are faults with the splashes too, but from the ones I've seen (albeit in pics only), there seem to be more, nicer splash roos than there are BCMs per capita. Maybe I've just been lucky in seeing the good ones?

I have found that the blues that are either too dark or too light lack good lacing. I have gotten good coppering on some really dark ones but not good lacing. The medium blues seem to get the best of both...that is what I am going to be breeding for in my blue coppers anyhow lol.

pls forgive my typing today I am playing left handed one finger-typist while I hold my poor silkie who seems to have developed wry neck last night in the other arm.

Yep then you were lucky and saw some nice photos....now share the links. I have seen some nice Splash birds but it's just my overall opinion that with every color variety he have to pick and choose, I just don't think that it is something that is found more in Splash than the other colors.

I had a pair of splash Marans (or suppose to be anyway...laid an egg like a barred rock) that came from a particular line that looked like Leghorns in the body. They became stew. Just sayin'.

Aww, poor baby silkie. Sounds like the middle of the road in blue is the best way to aim, so I'll try to head in that direction when the time comes, thanks guys.

Loved the Key West chickens!!
