Hmmm, you folks down in GA and FL are right down in Davis and Jeane country. Hard to find??? Try the middle of the country without having to ship in from a 1,000 miles or better! It could be worser ladies!

Debbi, I'm not a lady, my name is Jim. I'm new to these chickens but the blacks I have are supposed to have come from Wade, I think that's what the guy said. Who is that?
My bad, sorry Jim! Wade Jeane line is still whole and intact in GA. Wade Jeane was a past President of the Marans Club, and has been producing quality Marans since the 90s? Bev Davis line is still in FL., now through Green Fire Farms.
Haha I wish I had a BCM that was a "stud muffin" Most of them got problems lol. I have one young roo from a super dark egg (my avatar) but his tail is way high and his back is a little short. He has pretty good copper balance and no parsimonious spotting on the chest (although it is desirable), I think his comb is okay so far and he has good leg outer toe feathering. Still young but I think he will be a good size. I will defintely use him for my dark egg laying pen. I am not sure which roo I will use to try to get good looking bcms AND dark eggs though. I think I still need to develop/make one lOl. I think some of my hens are okay and also some lay nice dark eggs. I just need a really good bcm roo grrr. That's always the problem.
Sometimes I think I should just have a nice dark layer pen and not be concerned about apa this and that. I think I would enjoy them more without always looking at them squinty-eyed on who/what to cull.

Sweeeeet, maybe these blacks will be some real nice chickens then. The ones my friend had were some really good looking birds. I guess I'll get rid of the blues and see how the blacks turn out.
how long do your birds to go from egg to egg ?it takes my wheaten 8 months to go from egg to laying egg i could hatch ... my 2 lines are slow ,.,,i got eggs around 2 years ago
and i have one back breeding generation and working on number 2 i am slow thats for sure
My BCM, Blues, and blue coppers seem to lay at about 5 1/2 - 6 mos. I think my wheaten girl was more like 6 1/2 mos. My golden cuckoo pullets are still a little young yet and haven't started laying. My one lone all black girl (from BBS) started at about 6 mos. She is a really dark layer. I wonder if pure black marans are supposed to lay a color of egg more like a bcm or more like a blue? Anyone know?
i might b off topic but iv always thought color wise it goes best to worse would be black copper , blue copper then wheaten is third or forth ? any thoughts ? wondrring again on peoples thoughts?
My first three BCM pullets to come into laying started at 5 mos., 5 1/2 mos., and 6 mos., all from the same clutch. Getting at least 4 eggs a week from all three right now in the cold. Hopefully, that will get better when it warms up!
