I think it is the same for most of us - - - need a really good roo.

Come to think about it - - - in the human world, we are looking for the really good males too!

Oh wait a minute, I found mine - - - the man with the tool belt on . . . .

I think Math Ace had a couple of roos from Greenfire farms... How did they turn out?

The one had black eyes at 4 months of age - - - so I culled him !

The other I still have and he is short backed with quite a few white feathers - - - in the wing and tail. Also, the hackle feathers have a base that is white. So, NO GOOD! I need a better roo! I am working with what I have. I will see if any of the offspring are lacking the white feather issue.

In the meantime, my eyes are always open - - - LOOKING For a BETTER roo. . .

Hey Don, if you ever work out that white feather issue - - let me know

Ah yah! If you get tired of your roo with the tool belt, you can send him up here for a bit! You better keep that one!

I just started with fbcm's and bought some from a few different breeders to get started. I'm going for the best I can get and I'm still learning. From what I've seen and heard, the white feather is very common like throwing a wheaton every once in a while. It seems this breed has some work to be done but where do you start? Can you give me some opinions on these Roos? This is some of the parent stock from my chicks. All of the bloodlines are: Bev Davis, Wade Jeane, Wade Jeane C1@C2, Marans of Mississippi

These are from 1 breeder.

These are eggs from the 1st breeder.

Here's one of the chicks, I noticed that chicks come out looking like this and some were all dark and at 3-4 weeks old some are getting the moss color (specks of redish brown on their feathers). Is that normal?

Personally, I like the roosters in the first and 3rd pictures. Wow! The second set of egg pictured are nice, too.

I've discovered that one of my hens that lays a really nice, dark egg will sometimes lay a lighter colored, speckled egg.

I don't know if they all do this, but I'm sure which eggs this hen lays because she is the one I have in isolation after she was pecked by the others. She is one of my better looking hens, too. I'm going to keep her in isolation until I put my rooster in with whatever hens I pick for breeders, then from there I will hatch only the darkest eggs.

The coloring looks way better on the 1st breeders roo. The second breeders roo has "straw" color on the hackle.

Stance - - - The pictures you took on the roo from the second breeder are what I need to see to give you additional feedback.
From the picutures, it looks like roo #1 has a short back and tail is held at too high of an angle. Also, too long of tail feathers. Roo #1 has the orange / pumpkin colored eyes that are required by the standard

Roo #2 has very good tail angle and length of feathers. However, he looks like he has black eyes, a DQ I think.

A nice head on picture showing both boys chests would be nice to see . . .
The hen with breeder #2 has issues:
She has too much coppering. She should only have coppering on the hackles. She has it in the chest and wing area
sad.png
That is a big No No! On the first hen picture, she looks tiny and narrow. On the second hen picture, she looks much closer to the standard. . . Need more pictures of her to tell what is what . . ..

The eggs from the first breeder look substanially darker. . .

I can only tell you what I see that is right and wrong with the birds.
You want Roo #1 eye color and feather color, but you want roo#2's tail. Additionally, a little longer back would be nice - - -But not necessary if you had the correct tail!

. Unfortunately, I can not tell you how to fix it!

Others on here can confirm my diagnosis and suggest the appropriate treatment

Greenfire farms is no longer carrying Bev's Marans. You'll see they dropped them on their site.

The only thing I have mated up at present are the Cuckoo, and wheaten and at present am still trying to decide what is going to happen to the Bc Marans. I am really disappointed with the BC and hope they do not get accepted into the SOP until they are presentable . Just me, Don

Don~ Well since you have some background in Blue fowl, you can always switch over the Blue Coppers and ditch the BCM males and just keep your nice BCM females.

I have found that I can not get a good BCM rooster, well one nice BCM roo but of course he has a fault bigger than Jupiter with that wry tail, but on the bright side the white feathers that I found a couple of months ago in his hackles have disappeared, but the tail....ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have only been happy with my Blue Copper males and semi happy with my Splash males, but the quest continues. One day I will have a nice BCM roo, that is my goal anyway and I might be 150 years old by then but I gotta try.

Good morning everyone.
Pink, do you agree with Don's opinion of my blues?
Yall have a lot more knowledge than I do, so I'm going to have to go with the feedback I get.
