And a Happy New Year to you,and everyone else that's talking chicken today. Maybe in the new year we can all overcome one small task in our breeding program. Mine (I think) came today,I have my blue/ silver birchen cockerel in a " get well house" because he hurt his leg trying to be mr macho with a much more mature rooster. I have been very concerned that he would not recover,thus my program goes into a backslide,but he is showing much improvement this afternoon. Very good news,that makes my day.

I'm not sure what "birchen" means - but is this a blue birchen maran? She's a little muddy, we just got her - but I think will be beautiful!

Happy New Years to all my BY friends. I am new to this thread but look forward to constructive criticism and comments...
What else does one do on NEw Years eve but take pictures of their flock and post for comments. My small flock consists primarily of Wyandottes but I do have one lovely Black Copper Maran hen who was the first of my chicken obsession!!! I'm posting a few pictures of her here and look forward to hearing your comments...

So she would be considered a blue maran then? What does "birchen" mean?
