Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

This is Honey Rider, my pullet. She's just started laying. I am just curious if my two marans are nice ones, so i figured i'd post a couple of shots:

and this is Dr No, the rooster. He has feathered legs. She only has a couple of feathers on her legs.

Honey is laying the dark egg in the second row, towards the right. It actually is a bit darker and more saturated in real life.

soler, The female appears to be clean legged from the picture. the male is very Dark with very little copper. Looks like some wade Jeanne fowl.

She has 2 or 3 feathers on her legs/feet, mostly clean. I got them from a guy in Michigan, http://mimarans.webs.com

I had another roo that had a lot more copper on him, but he had a terrible temperament, so i kept the nice one instead. I was unlucky and out of 9 straight run chicks, i only got one hen. was wondering if they are nice enough to breed, or should i try different birds.

I guess I haven't got it down yet.

It takes practice for sure. Mine usually pop like popcorn. Every once in awhile I have one that does not zip quick enough and will start to shrink wrap and I will help them out. I usually just get them going and put a wet paper towel over them to keep them from drying out any more. They will usually kick out of the shell just fine after that.

Well I didn't get any Marans.

He only had one Cukoo and he wanted more than I wanted to pay for it. He had a white with a few black spots and said it laid dark eggs, I had no idea what it was. He was asking $30 for each of those. Keep in mind this is my first few hens and I onlu want a colorful basket of eggs not show birds. I got 2 really nice looking Black Australorp 5mth old pullets $15 each, another Brown Leghorn, and to replace the EE roos I returned. A EE hen and a Silver Laced Wyandotte who are laying. I added $5 for the Wyandotte. He then tried to show us his new baby goats at a different barn. They sure were cute, but no more goats for me. ...for now anyways. lol Then I saw a unadintafiable brown hen who looked kinda like my Leghorns with no comb and kinda like Welsumer in the barnyard with two tiny chicks. He told me if I could catch them I could have them. Oh it was on then....

Anyone want to guess at what kind and how old these two are? The one on top has more red than the bottom and they both have almost a lace pattern on their wing feathers. I dont care what kind they are, but how old are they when they start getting wing feathers? I'll get better pics tomorrow. ...and I said I wasn't doing baby chicks. They would probably freeze outside tonight so I can only help them. There was no catching the Mama though.
By any chance was the mother bearded?
Kinda look like americanas or EE's thinkin'.
Just a guess...am I close?

So, I recently acquired two Marans chicks with the intention of adding some beautiful dark brown eggs to my egg basket! Well, as we know, only girls lay eggs so I'm hoping I have girls! My Blue Marans chick is only 12 days old, so it's a little too early to tell. But the Wheaten Marans is 6 weeks old so I was hoping you experienced Marans owners could give me your best guesses! Thanks in advance!
