Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Maybe this will help some too.

These are day old cuckoos.... there is only one roo in the picture... can you find him?

This is a roo, see the whiter look he has? That is because he has 2 copies of the barring gene.

This is a pullet, see how dark she is? she only has one copy of the barring gene.

Head spots are harder after they get older.

Thank you both OHMamma and Pawtraitart for your opinions of him. He hatched out of eggs that were suppose to be BCM..........but I hatched out half of the eggs my bestfriend got and the ones I hatched out here were all over the board and they definitely have Wheaten in them. I posted photo comparison of a couple of the chicks that I hatched out last year on NYD 2012 and what they look like now a couple weeks or so ago and believe you me they are not pure BCM.

Oh and OHMamma....I mistakenly congratulated Ashandvine for winning at the show and it was you I meant to congratulate....so CONGRATULATIONS!
THANKS!!

I was wondering who I missed meeting at the show!! :)

Maybe here I will get an answer!! Does anybody know what birds cross to make golden cuckoo Marans. I have blue copper , black copper , cuckoo and blue splash ?
Scroll down to the bottom of this and read......it expalins it but IF they ever get approved they will be expected to be ER or Black copper based. Crele will be Wheaten based.

If you breed a bantam rooster with a lf hen would you have all bantams or a mix of bantam and lf of a in the middle chick?

I would think you could get a little of all. Interesting question. I have Choc Wyandottes and was told they could throw some bantams and some smaller than LF. They are really on the small side of LF anyway. Something I need to work on.......
