Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Since we are showing eggs, I got these from my Chickas this morning, Mostly Cuckoo and a few Blue Coppers. Sorry they aren't washed yet.

I'm pleased as punch with a good friend's eggs - he's given me permission to post a pic - are these gorgeous or what?!? (Black Copper variety)

WELL DONE, George!

Ellymay - I know what you mean. If you saw my pititful little hatchery layer flock several years ago and compared to now....

Wynette, Th shape of the eggs are what impresses me the most, very nice color also.

Those are lovely eggs! They're a nice reddish brown.

I'm with you - I just e-mailed a good friend whose been breeding Marans for years and talked with them about this as well, just this morning. I LOVE the silver penciled pattern.

I think you've posted her before, and I loved her back then, and still do. LOVELY!

Don, we ended up only getting about 2", but it was very wet, over quite icy spots...one of our VPs here at work slipped & fell in my parking lot - I helped her back into the office, and she said, "I think I've broken my arm!" I couldn't think she had, as she'd have been screaming in pain, I thought. Well, she just called to thank me for helping her, and told me that, in fact, she DID break her arm, in addition to dislocating her shoulder, and has to have surgery Friday to fix it all! Holy cow!

Don, post some pics of your lovely eggs - I'd love to see them! (you KNOW I'm an egg snob.)
Thanks Wynette, She is one of my favorite birds on the property. Photos just don't do her justice, I think I'll continue working with the cross to see how they do.

Oh, gosh. I'm blushing.

Thank you for the warm compliments. I really owe my good fortune to Wynette. She's been a great friend and AWESOME coach going on 3 years now.

I'm a bit of a lurker, learner and somewhat shy. I'm thrilled that all the hard work is beginning to show. This should be a good year for my modest flock. I really love these birds. Black Coppers are the only breed I'm concentrating my efforts on, striving for SOP.

Welcome to the thread George. You're not all that far south of me, good to see another breeder decently close!
