Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

We need an update

Mine are due Friday.
I'm still hearing peeps and such, but are still faint, so they are working on it. None hatched yet. The start of day 21 is tomorrow night, so they are on track. Right now I'm more worried about the weather, as we were in a severe thunderstorm warning and now an advisory. The problem we have is that the severe stuff has moved north, but that's were our power is from and am praying it doesn't get knocked out with the winds.

They are definitely at least part Marans because it's the only feathered leg breed in the mix. All of them could be crosses with Araucana, non- standard Ameraucana (EE), or Rhode Island Red. I got mixed breed so they could either be pure or mixed.

What features makes you think the one on the right is a cockeral? I was thinking pullet because the comb is still very small and not turning pink like the other cokerels I have and there are no apparent wattles. But I guess if it's a cross that could change the rate of growth on those things.

Here's another view of the crosses. Does that change your opinion at all?

Olive Eggers are a CROSS with a MARANS so yes they are part marans. The top roo with a pea comb is a cross for sure, but still a roo. That is a BIG pea comb.

The blue looks like a pullet in this pic... time will tell.
Thanks for the info! I think that's the only chick with a peacomb (I'd have to look at my pics again to be sure), so I didn't really have any scale to base it off of. I'm really looking forward to the chicks letting me know what they are, especially the ones that I keep going back and forth on. I'm also looking forward to all the different egg colors. I think we'll have quite a variety!

new to byc but wanted to share pics of my new babies a blue a splash and there cream legbar buddies
i dont think my picture uploaded sorry about the extra post was trying to get the pic to get on there

I think you have to post 10 times before posting pictures. When I checked it said you have only posted 4 times. So go around introduce yourself, comment on birds, then show us the pictures. Welcome!

Hey Maran lovers... Can I get some help? I just got my babies in, and I split an order with a friend... we both got barrd plymoth rocks, but I got 3 silver cuckoo maran. I can't tell them apart! Please give me any identifying marks so she doesnt take my babies!

I notice some have a white tip to their beeks, while others beaks are darker.

Any advise is truely appreciated!

Barred Rocks should be the only ones to have yellow legs and feet. Also, the Marans should have feathered legs.
