I was told to post these over here and see if you Maran folks can help. We bought 4 what were suppose to be Australorp babies but they look like they are turning out to be something different. They are 14 weeks old. Could they possibly be a Australorp / Maran mix? 3 of them have more mahogany than the one.

Hi everyone. I hope your having a fantastic Weekend. I am but I have a Question. I have Cuckoo Marans and when I hatched them out I get the odd Black one. so far no Roosters just hens. and they dont all lay dark eggs. some are tan and some are really dark. so dark you cannot candle them with a 250 watt White light. I have kept some of them and still I see the Cuckoos, and now I am seeing more Barred lines with some. And! my Roosters are starting to look like real silver Marans. should I cull the lot? or continue but weed out the barred? I also would like to know more about the BB gene verses the Bb Gene.

Lisa, The Wheaten males should not have the white tail coverts at the base of the tail. It is possible to breed this white out of the Wheaten.

Today is a very exciting day...... I am building a new coop, and finally i get to separate all my varieties of marans into little groups and start worrying about my next generation... so excited i can't wait... !!!!!!

because of climate i can hatch all year without having to worry about the weather!!!

well I better get out there or i will never get that new coop !


after that i am planning to build a condo block for the boys LOL!!!

Finally we got summer..! 2 weeks ago we had snow and 29 degrees.

Week later no snow..80 degrees the day I decided to process 14 meaties....So it was extreme for an ALASKAN...

.It has been in the 80s for a week straight. Trying to figure out what we did to deserve such great weather...Thank you LORD. Peace my peeps...

So would that be a cross between a Bb and Bb producing BB, Bb, Bb and bb? The bb being the splash? and the BB being a black?

wow... the weather is so weird lately...

My birchens hatched! 1 is BLUE too...yeah. 1 might be dark blue too. Heavily feathered legs...even on the middle toe. We will see what the turn out like.

Vicki you mentioned that birchen coloring is different.....how? These chicks seemed almost totaly solid blue or black. Not much white at all...good bad??????
