Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Posted about this not too long ago, but gonna try and see if anyone else has an opinion on this.

It's kinda bugging me about his color...

This little roo is supposed to be a Wheaten Marans. He doesn't look like my other Wheaten roo at all. Should I wait a few more weeks to see if any color comes thru... or did I get the newest Marans color - Mutt?

This pic he is one of those little blonde fluffy chicks. Sorry, can't find a better pic of the 3 wheatens at the moment.

This is him this week. So far the only color coming thru anywhere is black. NO color anywhere!

This is my 3 week old black copper maran chick and this is my first time every having marans and I'm a little confused about her weird color pattern coming in. Any thoughts?...

Maybe...I saw the parents tho, and the hens were Black copper and one of the roosters was a black copper but the other one looked like a wheaten maran rooster and the guy didn't know it. Could the pattern come from there? I purchased five chicks from this guy and 3 of them have this going on.

I think this is my only blue copper hen. 3 blue 3 black copper chicks

This looks to be a wheaten and BC cross. Lot of BC have wheaten blood mixed in and this is where this color of chick is coming from. I plan on posting some 1/2 Wheaten and 1/2 BC this week so everyone can see the results.

You said these were birchens? In the first photo I believe the one on the left is a cockerel and the one on the right is a pullet. The one on the right has some strong mossiness coming thru. Depending on what you are wanting to do with them, if breeding is a goal, it may cause you some trouble down the road for sure

by the way, just for the record -- they are now just past three weeks, and from their gradually changing behavior, i'm pretty sure you are right re: gender -- shorter wing feathers is definitely acting like a boy, longer isn't...
so thanks again!
