Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Hey everyone!
I'm so happy! I brought home two little Black Copper Marans today, 2 weeks old. I found a breeder near me, very nice lady. I got to see all her flocks, very nice birds, and her kids brought out a few of the eggs to show me. Egg color is the primary reason I wanted some for now but I was so impressed with the beauty of the adults you never know. :)

Here is my quandary... I ordered blue splash marans eggs. What hatched was a 1 blue splash, 1 blue copper, 1 cuckoo, and the following_ any idea?

These pictures are from last summer so he's a full grown rooster now, with very good temperament. His legs are white and lightly feathered. So, any ideas??
Thanks!!
Wow what a unique looking bird. I don't really know what would cause that. He is mahogany not copper. I wouldn't breed copper marans with him.

He has too much coppering right?
Would love opinions. They are so pretty!

Got anymore pics?  I would not cull him just for that at his age.  He has some NICE lacing.

Thanks I like it too. I'll try to get some pics tomorrow. Thanks for looking at him. He's such a sweet roo -I was going to keep either him or another nice blue younger cockerel... The other is too young to tell right now. :)

copper splash?
As with any blue bird, you can get B/B/S (blue/black/splash) when breeding blue to blue. If they are blue coppers, you can get splash copper Marans. The unique male in question has no copper on his hackles, and the red is mahogany and extensive on the chest. Extreme leakage? The splash I've gotten in my blue copper flock have copper on hackles.

You will like their disposition too. They are quiet, docile, and for some reason seem to go to bed early.

Apparently so. Looks like you have one! Not recognized by ABA, FBI, CIA or NASA. (NSA declined to comment). Congress is forming a study group. First they have to pass the Chicken Tax to fund it.

It's an uphill battle on the Chicken tax. The Dems are all for it, but thinks the government should subsidize it, 'cuz they need the votes.
The GOP is fighting for GPS chipping of all newborn chicks, to make sure nobody cheats.
The Tea Party is fighting beak and nails against any new taxes.
The Libertarians are sitting this one out, they all moved to Nicaragua.
Homeland security is seeking funding for chicken nets and cages, and "leather-look" hobnailed rubber boots.
The CIA is looking for chicken interpreters.
