Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Here is the all black Maran - is this rare? What is she called?
She looks like my black copper marans. Some of my girls have a lot less obvious copper in their feathers. I don't know enough to say that it is a rare trait, but I have heard of all black hens in the black coppers. Does she have any slight white spots on her toe feathers?

I haven't seen any. She looks all black and has the most feathers of all of them on her feet and legs.

My one Splash Marans laid her first egg today! My concern is that it is speckled. Has a very, very dark brown speckling. Will they become a solid color or is this a defect?
not sure about it being a defect but one of my cuckoo marans always lays a speckled egg. No matter if it's towards the end of her cycle and the solid color is light and the speckles are dark or the beginning of her cycle and the solid color is dark and the speckles are just slightly darker. It's always speckled. My other cuckoo lays a solid dark egg. But the same with my silver laced Wyandottes. One lays a solid light brown egg and the other always lays a light brown with white specks all over. Just makes it easier for me to tell when someone decides to skip laying for a day.

you can see what I'm talking about here

So the Roo is a Blue Birchen? The head and neck are not white, but a light tan color, although not as dark as the feathering on the wings and back. I can't wait to see what he produces with the Blue Copper and the Birchen. I'm not sure what the all black is called. I love the coloring on them all!

Very, very pretty.
