Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Definitely not a splash. Splash marans are white with flecks of black or blue ... A speckling basically. I am not extremely familiar with the blue copper, but he looks different from what I see on Google. Very pretty though.
pretty sure thats a blue birchen. So a diluted black gene is blue and a silver gene instead of the gold/mahogany gene. I think lol

This is my 19 week old golden cuckoo marans named May. I got her from a nearby hatchery in early May.

She is a little younger is the above picture.

Here she is as a 6 day old chick.

Here is my most recent picture of her.

What is the occurrence of feathered legs on marans? I've noticed cuckoos with legs decor and many without. But the French coppers seem to have feathered legs always. I have one cuckoo hen with spurs, but none of the others have any leg displays, however, my black coppers all have feathered legs. My curiosity is piqued.

I think it's the French version that has the feathered legs and the American version does not. I dont know for sure though, but I am also interested. I have 4 marans, two with feathered legs and 2 without.

ETA: All my marans were ordered from the same time from the same hatchery. The two feathered legged ones are white marans and the other two are a splash and a golden cuckoo.

pretty sure you are correct french marans have feathers on their legs and American marans do not. I have two cuckoo marans not sure what the coloring would be considered they are black and white but they came from a local feed store and do not have feathers on their legs so I believe the are american. One also has yellow legs and feet so I was told that they are hatchery grade. They still lay a decent shade of darker brown eggs

I am not sure about the French vs. American debate, but from what I have read cuckoo marans do not have feathered feet.

French standard is feathered, English is clean legged on BCM. The Americans adopted the French standard for the BCM, but I'm not sure about the cuckoos. My cuckoo are clean legged, with slate colored legs, but they are also hatchery birds. I would love to see what a SQ cuckoo looked like

huh not sure. My cuckoos have clean legs but the picture of the Golden cuckoo above does look like she has feathers on her feet. Now I'm gonna have to go back and read some more!
