Pink, Why not make up multiple copies of the proposed SOP, and put them right in front of the cages so the judges, and others, can see plainly! You know, like they do in stores, "take one~free!" Maybe if all that showed did this the judges would learn what to actually look for!

Beautiful Eggs! Beautiful Birds! I have to tell you that is the first photo of a Birchen that I have ever seen that showed the such great detail of the bird, I had no idea what they really looked like until now. She is ABSOLUTELY STRIKING!!!!! Maybe you shouldn't have posted that photo.....now I'm thinking that may be a color variety that could very well find itself a home here. WoW!!!!

Pinkchick Don't get your hopes up on this line... It would appear to be a very odd occurance indeed....... and I mean (what the heck!!) kind of odd. I have several ppl working on the question: WHAT THE HECK IS THIS!!! I have no reasonable explaination for this bird.. I can't reproduce it again. So it is likely to come back to my flock and I will trade out for a correct bird for my friends flock... Sad.... But I willsurely enjoy her in my Eye Candy pen.... Shall we name her folks... ???? Let's see what you have for names.... A little background first:

My coop is WONKA. My male is Charlie and the hens are the Chocolate Factory.... We have Hers-He already (the male/female Jesse Bryant bird) and we have Cadbury.... you get the idea...

Is there a show in Chehalis???? APA???? ( no holding out here!!!)...

Then there is that Nestle bar that is white & milk chocolate, but I can't remember the name of it.

I thought that just as I hit the submit button.......this would be great for the general public. I did leave some cards at the poultry barn this year when I went to see the birds. The gentleman that was supervising the barn couldn't believe his ears when I asked him if he had ever seen a "chocolate egg"......."A WHAT?????" he said. Well it just so happens that my cell phone is loaded with photos for such occasions. All he could say was "WoW!" "That's a chicken egg?"
Funny thing.....we were getting ready to exit the building and this man walked up to my husband (I was being educated by a sweet young man, probably about 9 years old about his Giant Cochins....lol the birds were bigger than he was and talk about knowing his stuff..he was too cute) and asked if I could get him in touch with some that has these birds, he was thinking while we were walking through the barn that it would be great for the local kids to have some and show them. I will be meeting with their 4-H group after they start up again for the new year. It's very exciting.

Pink: nice job on the 4h thing... that rocks... My 4h group showed our stuff and my daughter's eggs are due to go down tomarrow for judging... ya all know those purdy eggs we posted... Well they made Grand Champion round one... Let's see what they do at state Competition...Important note... The judge broke open 5 of them to see if they were grade "A" as well as uniform and pretty. He made the kids crack em and tell what they saw... I know it isn't the same rigid standard as a "show" but it is a jumping off point and a real chance to educate the masses. We did quite a display the year before last on the breed.... My daughter's giant Cochin took reserve and her BC marans Took a reserve ribbon as well and the judge didn't have familiarity with the breed (marans)... He liked clean legged meat birds so It was a really fair test for the bird against Leghorns and Austolorps etc... We are not showing birds this round... just eggs....

My FFA students are competing in chickens next year... It is so hard for them to do EVERYTHING... They were wrapped up in the sheep thing and market goats.

I have always respected and have a great respect for the Wade Jeane line birds, I think they are great.

I think there is a show coming up in Chehalis....yep. I have a West Coast Show schedule and think that it would be a great thing to share so everyone knows where and maybe they will have a chance to go.

I'm going to watch some of those shows as I never hatched any close to being good enough to show....though I have a couple that might be mature enough next year. To see what I can see at Santa Maria and Paso Robles and Bakersfield.....maybe some day I'll have some good enough. I love Birchens and I did hatch out a male from some blues but he is a eating bird but I sure would like to have some of those and I have an excuse as using Birchen on the Silver Cuckoos is a good thing......

I think I have located the hen... It is in my cull pen... I have someone working on it... It isn't something I hatched from for next year's babies...(whew!!!) Man do I have respect for ppl who understand genetics!!!! My brain hurts... so I have to drop off and do some physical activity to balance out my mind....
