Ok...so on Sunday I was officially attacked by a rooster for the first time. It was not one of my Marans but one of my Wellie roos, who has be handled extensively and never tried anything like this before......he's on my list and not the good one. He won't even look at me now and side steps out of my way. I was shooting some photos just as he decided to try his pants on for size, can't believe he got froggy. Will try and get the photos that I managed to snap during his fit over in the Wellie thread, little bugger managed to catch me off guard, I was able to get the photo of just a second before he snapped, then one when I had him pinned to the ground with one hand, I didn't realize the first jump at me set me back on my toot as I was kind of kneeling and my camera hand hit the ground it must have switched the setting to take multiple shots. He managed to get three jumps in and very quickly I might add. Full force both feet and spurs, hackles raised, wings up and ready to slap me......I don't think he understands that he is living on borrowed time as long as he has this cranial rectal inversion syndrome.

Anywhooooo, back to Marans......

Meet Chloe, my 5 year old neighbor named her for me this past weekend. 6 mos old.
I'm posting this photo just to show her copper. She is my favorite Blue Copper. Such a sweetheart, just like her mother one of my Black Copper hens.

Here she is stretching her wings and getting ready to jump up into a planter box.

"hmmmmm.....what can we find in here?"

Here we are done annihilating the planter and very proud of it. She must have enjoyed herself because I walked away to get some photos of a few other birds and I bet I watched her scratch in that planter for over 20 minutes. Don't know why this photo is a little darker, sorry.

This is a 6 month old pullet. The white feathers will likely molt out. None on the body. The red is still coming in...

I thought it was a good trade... they got the genetics they needed. I am hoping that their marans has better egg color.. The egg color of the Birchen was dissapointing for marans but Ya gotta start somewhere I hope they get it in the cross!!! Both are Wade... Really wierd... Two needles in a haystack is much harder to find than one.

Beautiful girls pinkchick and geebs. I think that hen is just stunning geebs. She seems to have beautiful shape to my inexperienced eyes. Newbie question. Is that the amount of feathering we should be looking for on the legs? I am asking about your new pullet geebs. Very pretty girls.

Some random photos of the babies just before I let them out to go play with the big birds for the day. They are 2 months old today.
4 of the pullets are mossy and I noticed 3 of them have pretty dark eyes.

Oh Pink, glad you're ok! Chicken soup soothes the soul

Hope he learned his lesson, but like you told me, watch out for the "stink eye"! Fuglee and I had another "go to bed early" round due to another storm. This time, it was only one run around the coop, and when he hit the first corner where I could get close, I told him, "you better stop". To my surprise, he just layed down and let me pick him up. But I'm still watching him! Geebs & Pink, those are all lovely girls!! Good trade there geebs! Love that blue copper girl Pink
