Hi,

New to this thread and Marans. I hatched some this past spring and am waiting for the laying to begin.

I have a quad of B/S Marans. But my blue roo is not all blue. He came from B/S eggs. But Hackles and saddles are coming in grey maybe...grey/tan?

I have done some looking for a picture of a blue wheaten roo but can not find a good picture. Does anyone have a picture or some insight? I will post a pic as soon as i get a minute to take one. I am not sure what i want to breed toward yet...but am doing a lot of reading and looking to find out.

Thanks Marans folks!

Hi Ace! Good to see you here. Blue is a leaky gene so what you may be seeing on your roo is some copper leakage but it is muted and not vivid or true which gives you the gray/tan in the hackle. I've had this happen a few times with some solid blues crossed with a blue copper or black copper. Hope this helps and more importantly I hope someone corrects me if I am wrong.

Geebs, the hennyroo went to a new home on Monday. Her comb was getting bigger and bigger, still very pink but it was becoming ridiculously huge. Her head was also starting to turn a red/gold color on top. Still very passive and hen-acting, but was looking more and more like a roo everyday. So a nice woman who lives in the Marin area came and picked him/her up. I asked if they would keep in touch to let me know whether or not it did end up a roo, and she said she sure would. So in a few months we many inally have an answer.

Jeremy Coolness... My roo turned out to be a hen... My daughter and I had a bet... I said roo... I owe her money now... DANG THAT GIRL ALWAYS WINS!!!

I hope you are able to hook up with ONTHESPOT at a later date for some of that line.... Super fun!!!

I rehomed my Wheatie from Cree today...So all you slackers missed out...out of a number 8 darkie...last of Wade from Cree... Sniff Sniff...
The same person took two of my culls...No feathers on the one and no red showing, yet, on either....I suspect it will show through eventually... My pens are DONE... All the birds are sorted for winter and of course fall hatchies...4 weeks and I can start collecting for the hatch time... YAY!!!! I have a good outdoor brooder and a little cage for 6 weeks on up... I am completely hooked up for winter... And here comes the Rain again!! ....(isn't that a song by Annie Lennox???)

I have a question please, At what age +/- do the "cuckoo maran" start to lay?
Mine were hatched on 4/30. I am Patiently waiting to see those beautiful eggs!

could be any day.. could be November...Watch for the combs to start getting red.. that will tell you that they are getting ready.
