Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Hi. New to this forum. One question=in the dark cuckoo marans I have found confusing descriptions of the proper plummage color. The way I interpret it-the French standard calls for lighter hackles on the hen. I believe it may have been the proposed APA standard mentioned lighter hackles in the hen "are acceptable". Another reference spoke of the cuckoo pattern as appearing more "spotted" than barred. The photos of the hens on the French site did show hens with much lighter hackles. Another reference simply refered back to the description of "barred." Any help would be appreciated. I am confused.

Berkley springs... This could really improve the red quality on the girls... It will make TERRRIBLE Males... Take your hen with not enough red and make some really nice girls..

Wynette, so sorry to hear that you lost a dear pet. ((((HUGS))) to you!!! I know I was a basket case for months when we lost our pomeranian of 15 years.

Illia that is one red bird. Gosh both your birds are huge boys look to be built like tanks! The second boy is beautiful. What are you feeding those guys? lol
I have a hideous almost all orange black copper from some eggs I bought earlier this summer. We have been calling him Agent Orange

He's gonna be getting culled for sure.
