I thought the chick was a blue copper, but honestly, I have seen no copper on this little pullet. She's totally blue and very, very pretty. So, if I breed her with the FBCM, I would have half black copper and half blue (with a copper recessive). Oooo, I LIKE!!! Would the black coppers carry a blue gene or no?

Geebs, kind of a question, kind of me stating I was looking into Cree Farms. I'm interested in their Blue Wheaten birds moreover.

You said Drom has some of their Wheatens, or only BC?

Drom has BC.... I have been very satisfied with my transactions with Gary and Lisa Cree. They are nice folks... My first generation from them was better than the last two birds... They stated they weren't the best but I bought them... (I wanted them) and I will use them just not as quickly as I can use Gen 1. VERY DARK EGGS from them...

My apologies. Just barging in to show the first three dark brown eggs I've collected today!

The three dark brown eggs laid today. Two have some speckles. I don't have a color chart so I can't tell what number they are. The middle egg (light green) is from an Ameraucana pullet their hatch mate. The light brown egg is from my ISA brown hen. They will be 28 weeks old this weekend.

Blue X Black will give you 50% blue 50% black offspring.

You would have to mate a blue to a blue to get the splash. Here's how the BBS works:
black x black = all black offspring
black x blue = 50% black, 50% blue
black x splash = 100% blue
blue x blue = 25% black, 50% blue, 25% splash
blue x splash = 50% blue, 50% splash
splash x splash = 100% splash

Your black coppers will be pure black coppers. Your blues can be blue black or splash coppers. Pretty much what Happy Chooks said lol.

Geebs~ The black copper from that cross should show copper but as with all Coppers as we know it can be too little or some may not show it at all even though it could be hiding.
Here's where it gets tricky Sky..... The Blacks will not carry the blue gene......a blue can only be created by using a blue or splash bird bred to a Black. On the other hand......the blue gene can vary greatly in its appearance, some blue birds can actually appear black.

Congrats on your first pretty eggs Cook!
