Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Good Morning all! Sorry to be gone from here for so long. There are just so many great threads on here!

Please tell me what you think of this boy. I had put him out and decided to cull him because he was smaller but after free ranging for a few weeks I am thinking he is a fine looking boy.

The lighter colored small feathers on his back are not white feathers. I looked at all my Marans and even the ones from different lines seem to have that. Then it goes away. The color is actually a very light gold and they are only about 1/2" long at most.

I still have only decided on one cull so far. This is driving me batty.

Blue cross Black will give you 50% Blue and 50% Black offspring. The amount of copper will depend on how much the parent birds have to contribute. Hence, breeding a solid blue to a BCM will give you some babies that will not show copper and some that do, some may have too little and some may appear perfect and others may be solid, please keep in mind that even though offspring from this cross do not show the copper......it can certainly still be in their genetics and just not expressed.

Thanks Jeremy, I really like her. She is an escape artist though, got out twice before we clipped her wings!!

OMG thank you! I really didn't know if I was seeing right. This guy has been outside free ranging with the fox... for weeks now.
