I have some questions for the marans forum - - -

Geebs, How can you tell he is a wheaten ?

The White fluff - - - is that ok for a wheaten ? On a BCM it would be bad - - right ? ?

His stance is odd - - like he has too much on the front / chest - - - Is this normal for this age ? ?

VioletBlueIvy - - Thanks for posting your roo. I am getting ready to hatch my first set of marans chicks. I am thinking I should get a back-up roo from the batch. However, my eye needs work. I will end up keeping the losers and culling the winners if I don't get better at it - - - FAST.

....White fluff, cinnamon wing triangle, and white legs... (the cinnamon wing triangle is a dead giveaway).

DANG IT - - I knew about the cinnamon wing triangle. I think I have reached the max that I can learn and know it is starting to leak out of my ears at night while I sleep !

The first thing we must assess in any breed is conformation. That being said, he doesn't have the best outline.

He's got a huge crop, which is why I said it would be best to photograph him another time and from a better angle. One of my BCs does the same thing, but on a normal day he looks quite excellent.

OK, I went and googled chicken crop and look at images - - - that is the area that is looking strange to me.

The web site said squeeze the bird and smell it's breath and if it stinks then it has a sour crop.
Would a bird have a crop that big - - -normally - - or is this something the op should be concerned about ? ?

Illia, does your BC get a large crop often and how long does it take to go away ??

I would like to see another picture when the crop goes down - - - like a before and after comparison !

Geebs you are so right on the waiting game I saved 2 from the kill pen only being nice and one is looking good way better than I thought He's going to be huge. The other is still a cull but they need 6 months at least to finish out some. How bad is it to keep a roo with a tilted comb it is off on the back side not floppy but off it's one of my goldens the only roo I got out of that hatch he's beautiful except for the comb defect.

My wheaten boys are total hogs thier crops look like that alot. They really love thier feed and treats. Thier crops are usually normal looking in the morning but by evening they are full again. I should probably let them free range more lol instead of sitting around eating all day.
