#1 looks like to a Welsummer Chicken? I am just a new new be! So do the Golden Salmon in the pic. Help I want to learn.

I thought I'd share a pick of some of our eggs that are being wrapped up to ship tomorrow. The buyer asked that I make a pic to let her see some before they got here. Now, this is not as dark as they get.....what do you think about them from Black Copper Marans eggs.... Have a blessed day. Nancy

(Our eggs are darker when the hens start up their laying but I'm very pleased with their coloring now. Some of the eggs are slightly lighter than these)

(PS edited to say to the buyer, you will not be getting them wrapped in that egg carton, still wrapped as described, no $5 will be in your box unless I run out of wrapping materials and no mustard will be in there either!

Thanks for posting more photos of them. By looking at the new photos of the mystery chick I can tell you it is NOT a Welsummer.

They sure do look all fluffy and healthy. Enjoy your babies!

I could swear that it was just the day before yesterday that there was all this happy talk about how there are so many hidden things lurking about in the Marans' genotype; patterns, colors, etc. that we have yet to see and what-not and ooooh how exciting!

So now a mystery peep hatches and everybody's rushing to get their torches and pitchforks.

As a breeder I feel a bit attacked that my birds would be #1 mutts and #2 not special. I have Wade Jean lines

I am like all of you on this thread, trying to learn more about this breed. The Marans is a fairly new breed and all the "kinks" are not worked out yet. This is why I don't show, although customers have shown with the offspring from my breeders and got ribbons

I agree that pitchforks and torches were headed towards Criker99 when she showed the pictures and myself as the breeder. As a breeder I am proud of my birds. After the first dark egg, after the feathered legs, after everything... lots of work has been taken with these birds and I don't just pick birds off the side of the road and call them Marans. Just my two cents.

Thanks for the info ... one line of these birds (I don't know which color) are from a Wade Jeane line. So tell me, from a genetics perspective, and hopefully using words a layman will understand, how do you get the golden salmon?

Apparently a throwback in this case, but if one wanted to breed for them? Or let me say, if we wanted to get more of them what would we breed?

Hi Bev, I have mostly Wade Jeane BC and have never hatched anything but BC from them, I do get about 10% with the Brown breast though. This year out of over 600 I had three Mossy females. This year I bred a Presley male over my Jeane female and got about 100 males with either white in wing or tail section, needless to say the male is long gone.
