The cuckoos are my favorite color of Marans. I think that it would be the easiest to get the cuckoos accepted since the ABA has already accepted the bantam Cuckoo Marans.

I love my Cuckoos and I don't have any idea when or if the Marans club is planning on a qualifying meet for the Cuckoos first will be the Wheatons and then the Black Coppers. It is hard to find people breeding the French Cuckoos I have a few I'm working with and mine lay eggs as dark as yours or a little darker...and I hatched mostly pullets and only have 2 roos to work with just keep searching on the Marans site they have a list of breeders and go from there if all fails and you could find a good Black Marans roo you could use him...

I believe this is the first rooster, I was more interested in the second since he is much better.

The red one?
I'll hafta get more pix of him tomorrow then

I would like to see how much color is on his breast. If not too much he is very nice.

The APA has no plans to accept the cuckoo at his time. It would be easier to get them in since they are in the ABA Standard, but it would have to be shown that there already are lots of them in existence. that is the hard part. All that I have seen are clean legged. The BC Marans will be the first in Feb 2011.

Walt , I believe if they get far enough the Wheaten will be easiest as they seem to breed more true. From everything I have read they are supposed to be next if the Black Copper is accepted, which is a big IF.

Please excuse the trash bag with poo on it.. The birds were roosting above... They were where they didnt' belong and I took an opportunity to use the small space for a picture without them running everywhere.

Please critique my pullet everyone. She is not laying yet.

Nice girl geebs!! My "Pretty" girl is showing more copper now and looks very similar to her. Wade Jeane?

On that note, glad to be back in the web world! My modem crashed (3 days after the warranty expired!), and I've been having withdrawls!

Dell doesn't seem to make any more puters with internal modems (No one uses dial up any more), that was the excuse. So, it was off to buy another one, external USB modem! Hard to find, and Staples said they were the ONLY ones carrying them. HA! I went to the University Book Store and bought one, cheaper too.

This morning, I awoke to what sounded like someone being strangled!

Lay there a minute to catch my breath...there it was again! It finally dawned on me, it was Pip starting to crow!

Just 3 days over 8 weeks old, Fuglee was just about the same age when he started too! Is this a Jeane line thing with early crowing cockerals??

Lots to catch up on here, but glad to be back!
