And thanks to everything I've read and learned on these Marans Threads, I was able to identify him and pull him out so he can't keep spreading bad rumors.......
Funny thing is - I had already gone the long way around to figure out who the culprit was. I had divided all roos into different pens and marked the eggs and kept seprating and hatching till I narrowed it down to his pen being the one that random yellow chicks hatched from. I had already pulled him when people started posting info on what Wheatens look like (I had no idea) and I went out to look at him and sure enough - he met all criteria. It was kind of sad at first when I pulled him from the breeder pens and the flock he'd been with all his life - he slept outside their pen, on the ground every night and when I went outside he would run up to me and stop and just stand there as if saying "help", "put me back", "I'm lost and don't know what to do". Now he's happily running around the farm and takes his picks of free ranging girls of all breeds.
On the other hand, I did have a breeder here recently that raises Wheatens and she said he wasn't pure Wheaten - most likely a mix.
