When doing the toe punch if you use the small toe punch make sure you remove the punched skin out of the opening as sometimes it will grow back shut if left. I use a punch for leather that is a little larger and no need to remove the skin as it falls out.

Don,

At what age do you do this? Seems like it must hurt some the older they get, and tougher to punch through? Do you put anything on the punched hole after you do it, like Neosporin?

Do the toe punch and also if you like you can do a combination of punch and slit and will have 78 different combinations. I do all this soon as they hatch. I also use the wing band when they are one month old and when grown I use a three hole permanent leg band.

how do yall incubate maran eggs? ive read that you incubate them same as you would other eggs and ive heard that they are different. whats the truth? i 15 on with some rhode island red and they have been on for a lil over a week. but since they are so dark i cant really candle them. but ive been keeping my humidity level around 60-65. will they still hatch out ok?

The first 18 days the humidity should be 40-45 and last three days 60-65.

wow. my bator said 60-65 first 18 and then 80-85 or is this with maran eggs?

These I gave you are for the small digital and dry bulb. If you are using the wet sleeve method you are ok as it will read higher. With my hatching I find no difference with Marans eggs.

If you guys remember a few weeks back I posted one lady, with a 5 point comb. This is one of her sisters. Mrs 5-points' comb was kinda shrivvledy tonight, like she's not laying. Weird. But she was eating/drinking/pooping/moving around ok, maybe it's the weather? Eh.

This is "Fence" the third sister who didn't get much coppering

she has really thick leg feathers. She got stuck on a fence as a chick and sliced her skin open pretty bad, but she healed up fine.

Aww such purty babies! I love the way the light blue ones look all silvery when they are chicks. What kind are the little brown chipmunk ones? Delawares? They are really cute!
