Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Hi there Pink *waves*

Speaking of cameras I recently got one as well. It is a Pentax 12.1 megapix 26x zoom with macro. I haven't used it much yet, still trying to figure it out. It is quite a bit different than my old one ( a kodak 3.1 megapix LOL) anyhow this is the second camera I ordered because the first one disappeared from the P.O and was never delivered. We had to file a police report and submit other paperwork to the company we ordered it from and they finallly sent us a new one. I still like my old Pentax k-1000 from high school though

17 weeks....yep they will plump up some more, for sure! All of a sudden you will look at them and ask yourself when they did that! I have some older hens that are just finishing up with their molt, they just turned 1 year in August. A couple of them had very little copper and now I have noticed that after the molt they have more, not tons more, but more. I also have a couple of 2 year old blues that did not show any copper until this latest molt either and now they show a yucky coppery leakage in the hackles. I knew they were from copper parents, just thought they would never show it, but that's what I get for thinking, yah?

Awww poor fugly! Maybe you could just give him some girls that you don't want to hatch eggs from. I have a blue copper roo with a foot deformity and he can barely hobble around. He gets to freerange and I lock him in the shed with one girl everynight. He is so sweet I don't want to cull him. He never gets any treats because he gives them all to his girl and he helps her get her nest ready everyday and sits in it with her till she lays her egg. He can get on her and mate..even though it is a struggle she lets him lol. There is a SLW named Hazel that freeranges alot and she comes and hangs out with him sometimes as well.

I like my little Pentax Optio 4.0 megapix that I got many years ago, it takes great photos when I take the time to monkey with the settings, but if I don't change the settings it takes the worst pics. I have been looking at the one you just got, please let me know how you like it and how user friendly it is.

Must be user friendly!

Here is a better shot of Fuglee. This is his normal posture, he can't straighten up. I know just how he feels!

I believe it probably happened in the hatch process. My first hatch, he had zipped 3/4 of the way, and the LG took a dive in humidity in the night. When I woke up, he was still in the shell and screaming his head off. Of course, all people said leave him alone, don't touch it! I could tell he was shrink wrapped and had been for many hours. So, I had to help him out. Poor guy had worked so hard to get to that point, I couldn't just leave him in there.

So far it seem to be user friendly. I think that's why I liked my old kodak easy share, because it was so simple plus I dropped that thing a million times and it still worked lol.
This one just has more stuff so thus more to mess with. My teenage son has it all figured out already lol, so I have hope that I can too.

Yes, that is the problem here too. He is so sweet to me and the girls that I hate to cull him. I had thought about just putting him in with the laying pen. He can't get his feet 3" off the floor, can't roost, even on the lower chick roost which is about 10" off the ground! I put a piece of plywood up against an outside waterer for some entertainment for the chicks. They look like a school yard of kids on the slide! The other day, the big girls were showing Fugs how to do it. He finally walked up the board, and when he got to the top, you could just see him beaming with pride!

He let out a big crow, then walked back down. Poor Fugs...

Yes, poor Fuglee!!! flgarden has a good idea about giving him a couple of ladies that you won't breed.

I have a little Blue Ameraucana pullet "Twizzler" that has a huge lump in the center of her back, I believe that she has a severly twisted spine.I have watched it progress since she hatched. She is very slow but gets around good for how badly she is twisted. I love watching her take off running through the yard playing with the others, I'm just glad that she can get around so well. The twist just keeps increasing and now when viewing her from the side she looks as though she is a hunchback. I suspect that she will not lead a very long life but she will get to live it out here with no worries.

Yes, the pics are decieving, they are surprisingly quite heavy! Picked them all up last week, and you can't feel a bone anywhere! They are plump girls, but seems like when I go to take their pics, they all flatten their feathers out, and lower their tails. They are growing by the day! Just hope that copper comes through after their first real molt.

My favorite part about picking them up is when I say to them "Been eating lunch everyday at the gut truck I see."

I like them big and hefty.

Can't wait for your gals to start laying for you Debbi! Pretty soon!
