Funny thing happened yesterday. Was in the garden finding them cherry tomatoes that are still left. All of a sudden, I hear a loud BA-CAWK! Ooo, oo, ooo??? Was that an egg song??? I had the big chooks locked in the coop so the chicklets could have full use of the run. There it was again, but wait, now it's all of them! Sounds more now like an "alarm" call. Ran over to the coop, and they are all huddled in the corner. What the heck?? Look all over the coop, see nothing, but one pullet is looking at something. Well, there it was, the tiniest mouse I had ever seen! He must've gotten in when I had the coop door open, and these girls were so spooked, I just had to laugh!
Seems funny how they can pick on poor Pip with noooo problem, but this tiny little thing sent them screaming!
Haha that's funny about the mouse. Mine are afraid of these huge 5 inch grasshoppers we have here. DH threw a bunch into thier run and they all squawked and ran away from the grasshoppers. Well the grasshopper kinda freak me out too. I crushed one once and they are so big its like smashing a small rodent or something...just gross.
Awww you had to say "Danish"...a warm cinnamon danish sounds awesome right now lol. I guess I better eat something for breakfast before it hits lunchtime

That is funny Debbi!
Yesterday as I was picking cockleburrs out of my goaties hair (I swear they use these weed bushes for scratching posts) and then Bill and his girls start going nutz....I look up and not 10 feet infront of me is a little doe just standing there staring at me.
I hope she wasn't waiting to be next in line for cockleburr removal. Wish I had had my camera with me, she is beautiful, poor lonely girl, someone shot her brother last month on my neighbors property. She and her brother were raised by their mamma between my house and my neighbors. They would be here every morning to find goodies under our fruit trees and would hang out for hours. Mamma was found about a month and a half ago in the ditch along the main road, then brother.
I feel so sorry for this little gal.
Anywho...I couldn't believe how freaked out Bill got over a deer. Maybe it was because he was locked up and all the other times he has encountered her he has been out in the pasture. Funny what sets them off sometimes, huh?

I only have 3 left & they are not laying right now. I gave the rest away to friends that wanted darker brown eggs in their mix. This bunch I had were hatchery stock & layed medium dark brown eggs with speckles. Not as dark as the breeder stock I used to have some years back but even those didn't lay as dark an egg as I was after so I went for the BCM. Their eggs are beautiful though & a great addition to a mix egg color basket. Everyone loves the spots..LOL

How sweet..................!!!!!!!!!! I am ging to have to start cultivating a personal relationship with my flock instead of just trying to make sure they have everything they need.
Mine are hatchery birds as well. /:
I was going to get some BCMs when I ordered back in early July but they were sold out. ):
My incubator is empty at the moment and I hope to buy some Turken eggs to put in there soon....maybe I will have to sneak some BCM eggs in there too
Did I just hear someone needed BCM eggs???? I can help you ....just pm me or look for a listing on BSA....I have BCM's feathered feet, Blue/Black/Splash Marans
And wheaten marans (Bev Davis/buddy Henry lineage) Will get lineage on others to you if you would like....BBS Marans and wheatens are basically sold out for a few more weeks!

sewandgrow, you should take a little fold up chair and sit in it inside your run. Bring some treats and just sit out there with them. You will be suprised which ones come up to you and some might even fly up on your lap. I had dh haul some old tree stumps into several of our pens so I can sit out there with them sometimes. Most of my chickens think they are lap chickens now lol. I go out there and say, "Comerrrre little Fweeeeties" and all these big evil looking roosters come running up to get petted. It sorta shocks some of our visitors sometimes lol.
