Do you have any good Black Copper Marans males?

I do not have any good Black Copper Marans males. I only kept seven young male this year and culled everything else for various faults. The seven I have are a little Dark but may have to use one of them.

Wynette, One thing to remember is that our modern day shows are judged by comparison mostly.

Of course - but, if they don't meet the standards, they don't meet the standards and should not be judged as if they do. Know what I mean?

MY FAVORITE! Send them over....better yet, I'll run out & pick one up!

cowgirl - unfortunately, I doubt it will molt out. Most of us have been culling for that. You may wish to cull or keep him - if you keep him, perhaps he has other conformationally correct things that are hard to find...in which case, it would not be such a bad idea to keep him! It's really up to you. If you'd like to post a pic, the experts (I am not one!) can take a look & give an opinion!

Ruth - I TOTALLY and 100% agree with you! I've said all along, I don't think it's a bad thing at all to simply want gorgeous eggs!! I say again, and I know many of you disagree with me - the onus is on the BUYER...BUYER BEWARE...to do your research. Ask tons of questions! If someone has gorgeous eggs and is advertising same, but you are wanting potential show stock, ask for pics of the birds! I don't think any of us should feel badly or embarrassed about what we have - you can find something useful in so many of the birds out there!

I for one was originally out there for that illusive dark egg but see no reason I can't strive for both. I know I will have alot of culls from what I have to start with but culling for me means they go to the layer pen or given or sold to those that just want an unusual dark egg layer to add to their flock. I have learned a lot looking for ways to better what I have & hope to continue doing just that.
I also agree that there are many that are just out there for the buck they think they can make. I find that I spend far more than I ever think of making & enjoy the quest. I just wish I hadn't started sooner so I had more time to possibly come up with something of quality, leaning towards the SOP even if I never show a bird in my life.
