Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I am still a newbie and I was intimidated to post on this thread.

I was more worried that I would not get any response. Not the case on this thread. I appreciate the honesty on this thread. The length of this thread is amazing, but you can learn so much. I might not have much to add on this thread. Still learning. I check this thread pretty much twice a day. I find it to be the most stimulating and interesting thread. Please do not change it! There is nothing wrong with critiquing birds. We need to not be so sensitive. I am happy for the sharp eyes on this thread.

It helps me know what to look for. I am not frustrated to breed Marans. This is something that takes a lot of time and I think the Marans are worth it! Thank you all for this thread.

Harris - that is a lovely egg - I'm a huge Speckly Egg fan! I actually even just ran a contest for speckly eggs!

Just by a quick look, your roo looks like he might be very nice - I'd love for you to get some better conformation shots of him & post for us all to see!

Welcome to BYC and to the Marans Thread. Those are great looking birds. I love the hen's copper collar and her comb. I really love her Ninja moves.

Very nice first egg - they will get darker as they get better with their paint chute. If I were you I would set it aside somewhere and just let it naturally dry out. Then you can use it in displays. I dry my speckled eggs and my small eggs and any unsually colored eggs and use them in display nests or bowls of potpourri. I don't bother blowing them out - if not washed they can be set somewhere and left alone and they will simply dry out. I've done many, many eggs this way and haven't had one to rot or go bad yet.

Everyone is welcome here - no Marans, one Marans, or hundreds of Marans. Just be forewarned that if you hang out here you'll quickly go from one Marans to many Marans.

We not only welcome Newbies to the thread - we really NEED newbies. There's a lot to be said for "new blood" - new ideas, new thoughts and opinions, new birds to look at.

I would encourage all "Newbies" to please post away. If not, long running threads (on any forum) tend to get "dominated" by a select few and it starts to resemble a private club.

We need new members.

Welcome Newbies!!!! All are welcome here....

If you post a bird and are sensitive or just want to show off a bird without a critique...Just let us know

... If you have a thick hide and want us to rip into your bird like a preditor... let us know that also!!!

Communication without the added cues of voice and inflection sometimes makes the thread look unwelcome... I love everyone on this thread from the A to the Z and all the input in between.. I think for the most part all of our INTENTIONS are honorable... The delivery fails from time to time... The rigidity of thought and separate experiences can cloud us and when we try to get a point across it can come off wrong.

Apologies to anyone that I have "mowed over" in an attempt to make a point... I can only see one tree at a time sometimes...

All are welcome here... It is many ingredients that make a good soup... I will try not to throw a shoe in it... LOL

One more thing...Sometimes we come on here and we are having... say a rough week.... It can come through in the writing... I get a little thin on skin sometimes... I am having an off week.... It is a little heavy here at home... If I have been off my game it is hard to see that from my perspective... Feel free to pm me and ask about any comments... That means you Don.. Love ya.
