Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Good choice on who you got rid of. The pic on the bottom shows what a nice deep Marans male should look like. He might need to be a bit longer back, but I would use him. It is very hard to tell in pictures what they really look like in person, but I can see that he has a great underline.

Morning everyone! woke up at 4am couldn't sleep thinking more of wynettes babies were hatching...got one more..total 5 fluffy fat babies...2 more taking their time, day 22 I'll leave them in another day or two for sure.

I've read through quite a bit of this thread and it seems largely populated by BCM breeders. Are there Wheaten Marans breeders that frequent this site too?

I leave mine sometime till day 27...ya just never know... Congratulations on the Fuzzy Butts.

I had two hatch last night. Current count is 10 marans and 6 delawares. . . There is another maran piping. I hope to see it emerge from the shell by lunch time!

We don't hear too much from the wheaton folks. We hear and see blue copper and black copper marans ALL the time. ..
Bev gets on here and can answer questions about the wheatons, but I THINK most are specializing in other types of marans.

MAYBE we need to get a SHOUT OUT from all the wheaton breeders out there . . . . .

LET's HEAR it if you have a pen full of wheatons . . .. .

Hi-are there many cuckoo marans folks on this forum? I have 10 hens & way too many roos-sure would like to find homes for 3 of my roos but am not having any luck-I guess they will end up in the freezer. Anyway, I have my hens divided into 2 groups of 5 each with a roo with each group. Should I have only one group of 10 hens with just 1 roo? I saw somewhere that only 5 hens isn't enough for 1 rooster.
