I have a bcm pullet that is a cross of fbcm x a lav/split blk orpington. I wouldnt think that would help in the quick maturing dept though lol. Orps take forever to mature. I bet her egg is darker though that the regular orps when she starts laying.

Yes me too Debbi... I have it in my file as a reference for a breeding goal.. I only hope to duplicate the pictures of the bird I posted or the one on the French marans site which is in my mind superior to the others as I can see no discernable difference in the wingbow but as Don points out that would be a futile effort as the AMERICAN standard Does in fact state mahogany... so for our purposes here in the states the other two examples are superior in color to the one on the French page... a real quandry huh?

Alright I lied... totally touching... In the US brown red means wild type like the leghorn etc...(just giving short version here).... in france it means black copper.. It is a translation thing... We couldn't call ours the same thing due to the existing standards.... We picked the name black copper... Okay.. there it is...

I thought that was just what the French called them due to the old wording for the Game Fowl? I may be wrong, but he sure looks like a BCM to me. That's the coloring I would sure love to see more of here.

This becomes a big muddle.. When I use things I find on the French website I put the terms found there I E... brown red.. here it means black copper.. Yes the brown/red in the US is a different genetic type... That is what we have here as a standard...Due to that fact we cannot call the marans of the same phenotype brown red because it is a different genotype... that is my understanding so we call them Black Copper.. the genetics are the same as the french birds.. the semantics are different.
