Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Randy ~ Not quite sure I understand what you are saying? With as few birds as I have, with culling involved, to get 8 generations of consistent quality birds, would probably take 5 years, if not more. Quicker way would be to buy adult birds and start breeding immediately, but unless they are fairly close to me, that would not be an option as the shipping price alone would kill me! There is one place about 120 miles from me I would like to check out, but will have to wait till the spring now.

They are too young for me to judge and the angles of the shots make it difficult as well. Some do appear to have the beginnings of white ear lobes though and this is not a good thing. They should be red. It could just be the pics, but...............check them as they mature.

Debbi~

You are too funny! I know, I know.....if I ever grow tired of him he has to be sent directly to you! You got it, but I still think that it will some time before he wears out his welcome here.

I am beginning to wonder if the gal was just rusing me... I still have her...I told her to bring back the male and I would trade... NOT A WORD... She is still here... I can send her back if you like...

..... She is a gem... She is small. I was surprised at how petite she is...Nothing is laying right now.. She is in the "friends" pen... I may test mate her to a wrong eye colored overmelanised male and see what comes of it... Experimental purpose only.... Just see if I can change the eye color.... I have an overly light eyed male that is also over melanised... indicated some kind of polluted line for sure but it is really a once in a lifetime happenstance...

NO silly girl I don't want her back.... I was just checking in to see how she is doing. I would test her and see what happens, you don't have anything to lose, right? Or you can just keep her for breakfast eggs. I am surprised that she has not matured and filled out more, her sisters are all nice sized birds.......her half sister is Charmin.

But as we know each bird is different. I am glad you enjoy her. Maybe it was meant to be that you got to keep her.

WEll it would sure makes sense that she was rusing me... I do everythng I can to please ppl that get birds from me.. The male I gave her was free... So it would have really been smart of her to trade... Guilt must have gotten to her... At any rate... She is a welcome guest here... My daughter has glommed onto her.... (she does with most of the eye candy)... She could care less about the BC's but has found the one from Wade that she is smitten on and keeps the two together...along with her bantam wyndotte from ideal and her D'Uccles etc.. Bird napper...(can't trust the kiddos) Does she have a name??? My daughter told me to ask.. I just keep forgetting.

Glad all is well. No, she didn't have a name. I can only name the ones I am going to keep, lol, I would never remember all of their names if I tried to name them all.

Yep...gotta love the little bird nappers.
