Number one I would go out and remove the zip tie from your roosters leg... it looks tight...

But that being said... He is a good looking fellow... for the hen I would use with him... they would need to not have much copper at all as he seems to have a bit much in the chest... His eye color and comb and leg feathering is good. Length of back and angles seem okay.. hard to tell from just this picture but the tail is set slightly above the desired 45 degrees.. if this is what you have to work with he is mostly good... I would choose a overmelanised hen.. nearly black with a under desired tail angle to make an improvement on the offspring.

The hens look fine for color..one is quite young...Likely to have over colored offspring in the cross... This is only my opinion nothing else.. This only factors in for standard not pet qualities and emotional value.

I would love to have under-angled tails but I'm lucky to get as low as the 45.

These female seem to have an abundance of feather shafting on the breast area. Does the male have white legs or light slate ? Don

Legs are slate but a bit lighter then some I have seen. Is this something I need to worry about? My hens all have quite alot of the coppering, so I guess I need to locate bcm hens with less coloring for the best offspring?

I very much enjoy the feedback, as I am definitely still learning and have lots to learn.

I will take more pics when the weather is a bit better that may show his body a bit better. He was not happy with me taking his picture, lol.

The tie was loose, but I still took it off. Just saving him from the rooster guy from taking him over the weekend. No longer needed.

plus my husband said no... not that it usually matters, but this time I agree! Maybe we will be sacrilegious and eat them, I've heard they taste better! Maybe a taste test is in order.

Funny! I very reluctantly cracked one of my fertile Marans eggs to use in a banana bread this weekend...it was very hard to do, but the bread was YUMMY!

I think I would rather be hit by a bus than go to Wally-World at this time of year, but I need some stuff I can't get locally. The weather is miserable here today, and getting colder. If the rain quits tomorrow, I may try to incoporate the young ones in with the older birds. The chicklets wanted to go in the big coop tonight, and fought me about going into theirs. Can't blame them at all. They were taking turns trying to fly out of their run, so I guess I should take that as a sign. New Blue Copper eggs should be here in the morning, so will let them rest over night, and set the next day. Need to see if I can find an even larger plastic tub for a brooder so they can hang out in it longer. Yeee haaawww, more chicks in the house!
