Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Here are some pics of my BCM. One of the roosters is clean-legged as is one of the mossy pullets. They are almost 36 weeks old.

One of the mossy ones is the one laying, I have seen her in the nest. Though it didn't occur to me to notice if she was the one with or without feathered legs. I'm assuming that since the baby is clean legged that means both parents are as well?

ETA: Photobucket is not wanting to work right today, I did take more pics. I'll see if I can get them to load to PB.

First day out of the incubator. One still has feathers stuck down on his back, but he/she is dry.

Here's hubby holding one.

All have feathering on their leg and down the outside of their toe.

One does appear not quite as dark as the other two. All 3 look just about like my original BCM chicks. I'm not sure which hen they came from, but they were from very dark eggs, and I only had one rooster in there. If I was to critique him, he could use a little more coppering and fewer points on his comb, but other than that I think he is pretty nice.

My next hatch will be in the spring. I am going to select a trio and then set only the darkest eggs from that pen.

Mine? #1 is a mix (not in the marans' pen), his daddy was a brassyback OEGB, mama is a bantam EE. #4 is one of the OEGB in the pen with the marans. I'm not 100% sure who his parents were, I'm thinking a black OEGB hen and my phoenix LF roo, this boy is kind of in-between bantam and standard size.

Ivy~ They are precious little fuzzies! Thanks for sharing them. I need more fuzzies, good thing I have a batch going into lockdown on Saturday.

Shelley~ I love the coloring of that rooster in the background in the first photo. My eyes are taken straight to him!
