Don, in all seriousness - it would be a travesty for someone like you who has done so much research and breeding to throw in the towel. (can you tell I'm going to hound you for stock some day? After all, you're not that far from me...)

In the old days they used to say a stones throw away. You getting any snow ? To be honest I still have several Marans here but culled so many that it has slowed down my breeding program for the winter. On the other thread we were talking about breeding Wheaten males without cottontails, I had two this year without the cotton but culled both for the white wing feathers. Don

We have a dusting, that's all. It's way too cold to raise up extra birds over OUR winters, anyway!

Don~ Just a thought and maybe you have tried this, but have you tried single mating the ones without the fluff that have the white wing feather? If so, what were the results and how long did you wait before culling any of those offspring?

Kim, I haven't tried breeding any of the males without white fluff and white in wing. In my mind I think all the white is tied together just like the BC. I know others say the white feathers and undercolor are not connected. The only thing I can say is for them to prove it somehow. To cut down on my culls I will cull any birds that has major faults from here on in. Don

Okay....so what would it hurt to try breeding one of the males that do not have fluff but have white in the wing or tail and see what you get? I know you don't want to waste time and feed on a few birds, but without trying, one would never know. Perhaps you may find the answer to fluff problem and find it easier to deal with the white feathers later.

Kim, where the two males are at they couldn't even try to produce chicks. I have a male hatched from eggs I got from Nivtup that has virtually no white anywhere. Only time will tell with him as I only have two males left in Wheaten. Don
