CHECK!!!! .... I am not sending one of my breeders Don...

After all it is the qualifying show.

At the Illini show last fall they showed birds with every kind of fault imaginable. They were told by the Committee that the fowl were not uniform. The trouble with showing Marans is that most people showing are not used to showing poultry and do not know what to do to get them ready to show. The Illini show was a qualifying show also. Don

Okay....so what would it hurt to try breeding one of the males that do not have fluff but have white in the wing or tail and see what you get? I know you don't want to waste time and feed on a few birds, but without trying, one would never know. Perhaps you may find the answer to fluff problem and find it easier to deal with the white feathers later.

Kim, where the two males are at they couldn't even try to produce chicks. I have a male hatched from eggs I got from Nivtup that has virtually no white anywhere. Only time will tell with him as I only have two males left in Wheaten. Don

I understand where the 2 males are.

You have one male hatched from Nivtup that is what....BC? And you have 2 other males that are Wheaten or are they all Wheaten? Do you have any BC males?

No peeking.. Maybe on Christmas... LOL... I hope they do well... I can't physically see them from here.. They don't BELONG to me... They belong to someone else... Which ones are actually going I am unsure... but I know they will be the best choices. I don't really want you all to put me on a downer....so I will wait..

I am vulnerable at this stage of the game... I was hoping Don and Pink.. that you would see them in person... I am saddened... maybe I will get something up in the OHIO area for you.. and pink..you can come over...

Kim, I have a wheaten male from Nivtup and a cock bird from Presley lines and I have either 11 or 13 BC and none are what I would like to have but will go with what I have, I would even buy a couple of BC males if I could find anything better that what I have. Don

I'll bet I'm not the only one on this thread that was hoping to gain some of this wisdom from you Don!
If you can do type, and you can do color, then it's just a matter of time before you'll get both. Oh, and make sure they still lay those dark eggs!
Perfectionism is a blessing and a curse. A blessing on those who benefit from your high standards, a curse on you because you can't live with less than the best!

Villagechicken I agree.... Don's perfectionism is well placed here... I just wish he would work with the black ones... NO ONE on here has em and I seriously doubt if anyone could do a more picky retentive job with them (that is a compliment).... in lamens farm boy word DANG PICKY!!!

I hope you find some of those... that might be such a rewarding venture... I would love to sit on the fence for that one...

Wow.. I was edited...

I'm hoping to be able to show my BCM's locally, but frankly, I don't have a rooster that is without fault . The rooster that I considered second choice (I just noticed yesterday) has a partial white wing feather.

My first choice rooster has WAY too much coppering on his chest, but otherwise is pretty decent. If I had to critique him more, it would be that I would like to see a little bit wider body on him. Perhaps he will still fill out more.

I don't know. He was a late March hatch. I do intend to use him for breeding on whatever hens I pick out that I deem to be my best hens. I've got a dozen hens, but I only intend to hatch from about 3, and only the darkest eggs from those.

I'm taking a break right now, but need to get back outside. I"ve been working on my "Antique blacksmith wagon chicken coop." I should have it ready for the girls by tonight.

I will still have some work to do on it after I get them in there, but it will just be small stuff. I'll try to post some pictures when I get it done and have more time. "Foul" weather is supposed to set in tonight and hang around for a few days, so I'm under the gun to get the girls in their new comfy house. The temporary shelter I built after the windstorm is just not adequate for winter.
