Thanks for the pic. A few of my hens have about that much coppering, but most have less. I guess my roo that has too much should help that. So the hens shouldn't have any coppering on their breast? None of mine do, but I thought that it was something that was desirable. Guess not.

2 chicks.

The dark blue and a splash. I removed all eggs from one 'bator that didn't do a thing. When I reached in to remove them they were cold, though the 'bator is running right at temp. They were all Charmin's eggs. I will be cracking them open later this morning to see what did or didn't do. I haven't pulled the plug on the other 'bator yet, I believe there may still be a peep coming from it.

The only logical thing to do now is set the eggs they have given me since Wednesday and try again. Color is better. Wonder if they were still suffering effects of the weather we experienced over the last 3 weeks?

Lotsa lotsa rain coming our way. I understand Portlandia had some flooding issues yesterday. Our county is under flood advisory today and tomorrow. Yippee skippy!

Lots of my pullets and hens have too little copper in their hackles, I don't let that slow me down. Slowly, I am starting to see improvements with using Gnarles to create girls. Gnarles has the right amount of copper and in the appropriate places with some copper in his chest as well, crossed over some hens that had too little copper in the neck, offspring are showing more. The females that I used also had a feather or two that had a little stippling near the end of the feather and laid the darkest eggs I was getting at the time, so I used them.

Color of Male

Disqualifications:
Brown triangular wing bay. Golden or Straw colored hackles.

The cock:
The Ideal specimen will represent a color balance of Black and Copper. The cock must be Black with Copper finery, the hackles and the small of the back are Copper colored, with a Black or slightly reddish-brown marked breast.

Comb, Face, Wattles and Earlobes: Bright red.
Beak: Dark Horn.
Eyes: Reddish Bay.
Shanks and Toes: Dark Slate, bottom of feet pinkish white.
Head: Deep Strong Red Copper color.
Neck:
Hackle: Deep Copper color (mid-coppery to red-coppery, but not golden or straw colored).
Front of neck: Black with narrow lacing of Deep Copper.
Back:
Back: Lustrous Deep Copper.
Saddle: Deep Copper color matching the hackle.
Tail:
Main Tail: Black with slight luster.
Sickles and Coverts: Lustrous black with glints of beetle Green.
Wings:
Shoulders: Mahogany Red color.
Bows: Lustrous Deep Copper to match back.
Coverts: Lustrous black forming a black armband.
Primaries: Black.
Secondaries: Black (exposed portion forms a lustrous Black Triangular wing bay).

Head: Copper (varying from mid-copper to red-copper).

Hackle: Copper with a black-colored tip (spreading out almost down to the breast).
Front of neck: Copper.
Back: Black.
Tail: Black.
Wings: Black.
Breast: Black.
Body and Stern: Black.
Legs & Lower Thighs: Black.
Shank and Toe Feathering: Black.
Ear Down: Black.

Yes, the BCM and Blue Copper males can have a little copper in the breast. I do remember reading that it should not exceed 10% of overall breast color.

I wouldn't say that it is truly brown Don, it is more of a fawny coppery light brownish ear covert. It does not match the head and hackles exactly, IMO. So, I understand why they refer to it as brown.
