Rotti ~ I've got to say, in my limited experience, I like him. He has some obvious faults, but his broad, chunky "type" and overall picture looks nice. Faultwise, his back is on the short side, tail, comb, color balance between hackles/saddle, and eye color could be better. Maybe it's just the pic, but are his eyes actually dark? Sometimes the lighting and the camera plays tricks. All in all, as a total picture, I like him! The hens need better pics (sorry!).

He and one of the hens has black eyes. If they aren't good enough that's fine, I just wasn't sure. I've got 12 FBCM that are about 10 weeks old and they are from good stock.
I used to have to put the chooks to bed over half an hour ago! Still some semblence of light here now, and they are not going in till it's all gone! Spring is coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pinks, real quickly when you reference your GFF marans, what are you specifically referring to? I can take an educated guess, but would like to verify.
Rotti ~ It's better to start with overall type and worry about the smaller, easier things to fix later along the way. Not sure how hard it is to get the better eye color, more experienced will help you there.

Yep, days getting longer and some of the freeloaders, that would be some of my layer hens, have commenced laying in the last week and I'm pretty much in your same type environment here in N. IN. Come on Spring!!
