Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

I crossed a FBCM roo with a blk/split Lav Orp hen. The result is a black pullet with feathered shanks and just a touch of copper hackle. She lays at least a #4 speckled egg. She could pass for a dark Marans pullet if one didn't know better. I think her body is more Orp shaped than Marans but she is not going to be as large as an Orp.

I have a good feather legged BCM roo x bl ameraucana hen. There were 2 chicks. The first chick (#1) a male looks like a black ameraucana (muffs, beard, peacomb) but does have feathered legs and a copper hackle. No other coppering.
#2 was a pullet shaped like a Marans. Black body, does have a peacomb, but no muffs, no beard, no feathered legs. She has her coppering on backwards lol like a V shape on her breast instead of her hackle. Still awaiting her Olive Egg.

? which pics? Sorry!

Oh, flgardengirl, I have some black olive egger girls - one just began to lay, they were sired by a black copper marans cock and an EE for 1st generation, then bred back to a pure blue amerauana to try to bring more green (the eggs of F1 were coppery/olive). These pullets are just gorgeous IMO, and should be recessive for blue, so I can't wait to hatch some of their eggs:

Well, speaking of crosses, can you imagine that this isn't a BCM?

New Hampshire x BC Marans; Lays a very shiny #4 egg. Also has good Marans size, despite the production-type New Hampshire in her.

And speaking of size, I find it interesting. . . Was taking photos yesterday of my various Black Copper pullets, and I find my WadexDavis hens to be much larger than my Davis or even Wynette's babies. Certainly not the best egg color, but that size I'm certainly going to use for meat project production.

^ WadexDavis on the left and middle, Davis on the right.

Still didn't get a photo of my favorite pullet from Wynette's eggs. . .

Illia, those are most definitely chunky ones you have there!

What breed is that one to the very bottom left? It appears to have some major side sprigs in its comb....

Well, I'm sorry, I can't hide it too well, yes - I've got a project going on. I want to make a sort of blue roan colored Marans, but I'm having a tough time with the combs! They're really big too. . .

Any of you tried this project before?
