Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

Hello everyone

I too am a Marans fan, and I'm a member of the Marans Club de France.

At the moment I only have two pullets, both of uncertain heritage, after the loss of my (quite) nice CB boy... here he is at about 18 weeks and just finding his voice:

Unfortunately about 2 weeks after this photos was taken he was killed by a marten, so I never got to have any of his babies

I currently have quite a lot of feelers out looking for White, Silver Black and Silver Blue hatching eggs here in France. Now I'm just waiting for responses with baited breath!

Bonjour Casey, welcome to the thread! So sorry for your loss, he was quite a lovely boy! Please feel free to post more pictures of your flock, we all love pics here!

Thanks everyone. I was pretty gutted, especially as I found him with only his head missing (waste of good meat for any predator!) He was actually the reason I got involved with Marans in teh first place because he was so typey (to French standard) His colouring wasn't gret, but he was still only a baby.

I live in the Alsace, France, and CB Marans are a dime a dozen, as it were - though a lot of the time the egg colour is a lot to be desired, and probably only makes a 3 on the official colour chart.

I have a wheaten pullet (with clean mis coloured legs

) who has only just come into lay (her eggs are about a 4, which isn't too bad as I think she may even be a cross breed), and I have a black pullet who is yet to come into lay, though I'm expecting it any day now (and have been for weeks!) She came out of a very nice coloured shell (about a 6) so I have high hopes for her eggs. Of course I'm missing a cock at the moment, but I'm going to all the shows I can looking for either eggs or some new blood to brink back to my garden.

I have to admit that my French isn't that great, but it is well enough to get by on the MCF forum (with a little grammatical help form google

)

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm in the Alsace, and right in the 3 frontier région on the border between France, Germany and Switzerland. My village is both 20 mins by car from Germany and 20 mins from Switzerland. It is a beautiful region, this is what I have on my doorstep:

Welcome!

Beautiful scenery! Are you riding that horse or is it pulling a cart?

My son was in France for about 6 months and absolutely loved it!
