I'm getting some clean legged Cuckoo Marans eggs this Spring (Fitch line.) Does anyone in the US breed clean legs in other colors varieties? (I prefer the clean legs.)
Thanks!
Those guys are all SOOOO pretty! This spring some of the chicks I am getting are silver ameraucanas and some silver leghorns. It really is hard to wait.
Wynette- that olive egg in your avatar is awesome. Honestly, that is the first time I have actually seen a picture of one. I've heard people talk about their "olive eggers" but not seen the eggs. I intend to use some of my marans and ameraucanas together to make a few olive eggers. Of course since the ameraucanas are chicks that I don't even have yet it will be a while.
Maran folks. I posted in another thread about my Maran chick who has weird not right feathers on his/her wings. If you feel so inclined I would love to have your opinion in that other thread. I know enough about birds (with what little I know.LOL!) to know its not right.
Anyway to keep on topic better, my 5 maran chicks are doing great. They love to dig their feed out of their bucket. RRRAARRR!! Drives me crazy. Also they seem super skittish compared to other chicks we have had in the house to keep warm.
I havent been around lately, (kidding season for the goats!) but PinkChick asked me to post some new pictures of my Gnarles son...so here they are. he is about 9 months now. Sorry they arent great, I am only home when it is dark, so these are from whatever angle I could get him in the barn. I also attached a photo of my blue copper hen from Pink who has just started laying eggs the last few weeks! It was a LONG wait but well worth it, except now she has a crazy comb! I just stuck some under a broody hen. Not sure what will come out since she is running with the golden cuckoo roosters as well! Oh well...should be interesting! BTW...the rooster was all wound up because he thought I was trying to catch him, so he might be a little stretched!
Several of my OEs' from Wynette have started laying in the last month or so and one of the eggs is darker than what is pictured in her Avatar. Also, my BCs' from Wynette are laying nicely despite the cold, snowy weather here in N. In. You've done a lovely job with your BCs' & OEs' Wynette
Thank you for sharing. Bracing for the lovely storm headed our way this pm. Ought to be interesting!
Hi All - I haven't been around much lately - just so busy with life and life on the farm but I'm still here and still breeding Black Copper Marans to the French Standard. I've just recently put all of my Marans back into breeding pens and will be taking orders for hatching eggs and day-old chicks. Right now I have a pen of what I call my "best" and a pen of the "rest". Later I'll separate the "rest" into project pens - one with a roo that has too much red in breast paired with females that have too little color in their hackles and another pen with the opposite (hens with too much color and a roo that's very dark).
My eggs have won both the Ohio National and Wisconsin National shows and they have just started laying again so I'm hoping to have something to send to Newnan.
