Oh gosh Lisa, it sounds like I am a mixture of you & your husband.....LOL I leave no space unused & am such a packrat but I am pretty organized in a way too. When I am in a hurry things just get set in the general vicinity & then latter I go back & reorganize.
I can't wait til the new babies hatch, yours & mine so we can try out our new brooders...........

Oh, gosh, this sounds familiar. My husband's shop is such a mess. We each have our own toolbox. We are BOTH packrats, but I am an ORGANIZED packrat. I haven't figured out my husband's system yet. At one point he had lost or broken every tape measure we had, including mine, and had gone through several more that he purchased because of that. For Christmas this year I put the bug in several of the kid's ears. He got a total of 8 tape measures for Christmas. Now if he will just keep his hands off mine! (I wonder if he would mind if I used his when they are "closer"?)

I think I'll go move 10 RIR hens and see how they and the marans ladies get along!

Susie, I didn't have much luck moving my pullets around. I put all the mossy BCM pullets into the layer pen. One mean Aracuana pullet in there harassed the youngest one to death. That left only the decently marked ones in the open pen with the roosters. Now everytime I go into the layer pen one of them try to escape back out into the open breeding pen. ACKKKKKKK!!!! I get so flustered trying to chase her with the long handled net that I want to wring her neck, but I can't do that because I don't know yet what her egg looks like......LOL
As far as tape measures go, we have similar problems keeping trackof them, His, Mine & ours............... That is one of those things that is on my written list of "things you never have enough of" along with scissors, hammers, screwdrivers etc....etc...etc... But they do make great stocking stuffers & we have really BIG stockings.....LOL

That's great!! How dark were the eggs they came from?. My Cuckoos are hatchery stock & their egg color is no good at all. They could be RIR & they are a little pointed too...................

You have a nice looking flock started. As tempting as it is to cull early. I would wait and see how these males mature. They can change quite a bit in the first year. Your hens look pretty nice and dark so the one with more color might be a good match for them but I would still wait and see.

Hi, the shells do seem much thicker than some of the other chicken eggs I have. I usually dry hatch mine which means I keep the humidity around 55% or so when hatching. I don't really think they need any more humidity than other eggs. Everyone kinda has a style that works for them. I live in a very humid area so maybe the dry hatch works here.

Congratulations on the feather legs. It looks like you have a sportsman incubator under the flower pots. Does the warmth from the incubator help the plants start faster? Better watch that chickie. He might just decide those sprouted plants would make a tasty treat!
