I'm wondering if a Wheaten Maran roo can be used to create sex-links with Silver based hens such as the Light Sussex?

My Splash Marans chicks are three weeks old, and of the five, one has a definite bigger and redder comb! Is it normal to be able to see this so soon? It is really pronounced compared to the others... Does that mean i have four girls and one little dude, or do i need to worry another comb will spring up??

Also, all chicks had feathering at hatch, but now one seems to have none on her shanks, and one looks, well, piddly... Do they lose shank-feathering??

Ditto!

Also...about the leg feathering- The feathering that they have on their shanks is just like the rest of the chick down that covers them when they hatch....this down will be replaced by real feathers as they grow and feather out.
