Hi Raven! How are your blue babies doing?? How old are they now?

Debbie they are growing up fast and are 4 weeks (about)I ended up with 3 blues and a black and right now it looks like they might all be pullets

One Bill baby and 3 Gnarles babys very pleased!

Any opinions on gender? 2 Blue Birchen Marans hatched 3/17, making them 3 weeks old tomorrow.
They both seem to have a fair amount of comb development, more than our other chicks the same age, and perhaps more than our Ameraucanas that are a week older. One seems to have a slightly more developed comb. One also has some brown highlights in their feathers, any ideas what having that impacts what they’ll look like as adults? Or not having it?

In Silicon Valley with 8 chicks! 2 Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas, 2 Mottled Javas, 2 Blue Birchen Marans, 1 Barred Plymouth Rock and 1 Easter Egger. We can only keep hens and are trying to figure out which of the bunch are girls so we know who we have to re-home, only able to keep a max of 5 hens.

??????? Why is that? FBCM=French Black Copper Marans. All I was saying, is that the French term needs to be dropped, by all that are still using it, because there should be no difference now, as all Marans should be feather shanked. So, in this country, they would just be called Marans; Black Copper Marans, Blue Copper Marans, White Marans, Cuckoo Marans, etc. I believe it was Bev Davis that first brought this subject up here, to drop the "French" from the name. No one was picking on your birds or you, and I'm sorry if you took it that way? Don't let it ruin your hatch for sure!

I'm guilty of using FBCM from time to time. I actually think I have a CL post right now for some cockerels that I put FBCM on. LOL, what's an "F" between friends?!?

Since people still have "English" marans OR are looking for clean shanked marans for personal preference or breeding projects. .. . . I still specify FBCM because I don't want any misunderstandings. Otherwise, I will specify that my marans are breed to the American SOP for marans. Saying FBCM is just way shorter

On the marans thread it is not neccessary because we are all intent on the American standard, but in conversation outside of this thread I do specify FBCM.

Who has silver cuckoo Marans with no gold leakage and feathered shanks? Anyone know? I wanna get some eggs...

Thanks. I thought it might be too soon, but thought I'd post since their combs seemed to be getting large. Keep me posted on yours! It'd be great to compare the little ones.

Ok I have a question for anyone.

There is someone around me claiming there chicks are from stock Bev Davis and Wade Jean C1 if this was really the case and they were pure. Would some come out clean legged and other fully feathered if they were truly from there stock?

Reason Im asking is because from what I understand both lines are very good and I would not think any clean legged chicks would be hatched from those lines. These are supposedly black coppers and blue coppers.

Just trying to learn some more and something I have been thinking about.
