Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

As much as it has been raining around here, I don't know if "water-boarding" Madison would shut him up! Actually, between him acquiring a better voice and me getting used to it, I don't mind his morning "songs" as much as I used to. That might change as some of these other Roos get older...

I have a favorite Rooster who has the most obnoxious crow....I have found a home for him when I'm not needing him anymore as he is quite the gentleman but then you never know if his replacement is going to be worse..he just has a big crow to go with his great big size.....

Pierre's maybe replacement

Blue Birchen Marans - 6 weeks old - need help with gender
Ok, these little ones will be 6 weeks old tomorrow and it is time to determine which we can keep or have to re-home. I had posted some questions before, but now finally have photos!

These are 2 straight run Blue Birchen Marans…would love your input on their gender.

Marans #1 – Lots of silver coming in around hackle, has always had some copper/brown on the tips of wing feathers and it seems now a little on the hackle too in the silver.

I'm going to take a stab at this I think the #1 is a little cockerel and I think #2 is a little pullet I also will say with Marans waiting is necessary to be sure the male will get color in the saddle feathers then you will know unless he crows like one of Lisa's......

Thanks Lotsapaints. How long would you say you need to wait for this breed?

Your #1 is a boy, and he is not pure for blue birchen with the copper leaking through.
#2 is a girl.

Thanks Marquisella. You seem pretty sure! I guess we'll be looking for a new home for him. Hopefully we can find a good one.
Anyone in the Silicon Valley area interested in him?

jeannie what a bummer about the coloring. I got these eggs from Gabbard Farm, all of them that you have...hmmm I can't really express my thoughts/anger in writing, on this thread....
