Marans Thread - breed discussion & pictures are welcome!

One of my 3 cockerels ran over and bit my foot tonight. . . .

I am feeling like making some chicken and dumplings real soon. He actually drew blood with his one quick bite. ..

I pinned him to the ground ASAP and yelled at the other two dummies to get away! The other two dummies challeneged me a couple of weeks ago at the same time and had to spend the morning being carried around like footballs - - - one under each arm. Needless to say, when I yelled at them, They WENT AND HID!

Hi i wanted to share my French black copper Marans, They are my first hatch, and we just love them,. they are very tame and docile, I can not wait until I can tell how many pullets I got.

I moved the last 7 birds (4 pullets & 2 cockerels) into my main coop today. Now all the birds are in one pen, but I'm still missing an Olive Egger pullet.

Thanks Snowbird - that makes sense (a little different in horses)

I'm hoping to move out the culls this weekend, so we'll see how #1 looks in a week or so!
I'll look for back shape and tail angle and report back!

Zanna - I'll have to go look tomorrow. He's very heavily feathered on the outside from top of the leg to end of toe.
Could be something he's standing on, too. I know the feathered middle to is a DQ.

Math - hehe - that's what I said, but you said it MUCH better!

Debbi - hormones are raging - lucky you!

My one cockerel tried me out yesterday - he puffed up and jumped up at my hand.
I made myself "big" and yelled at him, then picked him up and carried him around for a while...

Needless to say - he was very polite today!!

Need to learn chicken body language and "talk" to make things CLEAR, like I do with the horses!
