Let me know how they work because I am having a hard time dealing with all the watering in this heat too!
I bought my birds a watermelon today because I feel so bad for them. . . .
I recently have been converting to nipple waterers. I have all my grow out pens converted to the bucket ones with nipples on the bottom & am going to convert the brooders to the nipples on PVC. My husband is the "worker bee". I come up with all the hairbrain ideas that he is left to make work.....LOL. As it is now all 4 brooder shelves have a stepping stone with 2 or 3 1 quart water jars on top of them. They still manage to get shavings & poop in the waterers even though they are elevated & have to step up to them, but it is much better than having them down level on the shelf. It is time consuming to wash & refill all those jars everyday. The new baucket ones can be refilled outside with the hose from the top with no mess. The chickens took right to them in no time at all. We just installed the buckets & removed the old waterers & watched to see what they did. They took right to them. I think the red color attracted them & their curiosity did the rest.
I'm converting over to the nipple water system as well. So glad to hear that the chookies took right them. I was wondering how they would do.
